Categories
At Toolstation, we take pride in celebrating the dedication and achievements of our team members. This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Joe Wigglesworth, our Store Manager in Kendal. With a passion for teamwork, customer service, and a drive to succeed, Joe’s journey through Toolstation has been inspiring.
Introducing Joe Wigglesworth, Store Manager in Kendal
Joe joined Toolstation in 2022 as a Store Assistant, and it didn’t take long for him to see a bright future ahead of him. In just a few months, Joe’s commitment and enthusiasm earned him a promotion to Supervisor, and now, he’s thriving as the Store Manager of the Toolstation branch in Kendal.
Reflecting on his journey, Joe says, "It was always my goal to progress through Toolstation. When I started as a Store Assistant, I quickly developed a passion for the job. After four to five months, I was offered the Supervisor role and took it very seriously. I made it a point to learn as much as possible from my manager, so when the opportunity to apply for a manager position came, I knew I was ready."
A day in the life of a Store Manager
Joe manages the store’s day-to-day operations, from creating rotas and ensuring safe working practices to monitoring store finances. However, for Joe, the most important part of his job is leading and motivating his team. “My biggest impact as a manager is keeping my team motivated. Running the store smoothly is a team effort, and I love fostering an environment where everyone feels engaged and happy to come to work."
What Joe loves about the role
The best part of being a Store Manager is making my team and customers happy. He explains, "Creating a welcoming environment where everyone knows their roles and enjoys working together is key. No day ever feels the same when you have a great team that gets along well!"
From electrician to Retail Manager, a unique career path
Before joining Toolstation, Joe had a varied career path. He worked as an electrician, moved into the driving sector. At 30, he started his own valeting business, but unfortunately, COVID-19 disrupted those plans. "I found the Store Assistant role as a stop gap, but it was the start of something much bigger for me. The rest of my story is still being written but it goes to show that you don’t need retail experience to progress in Toolstation. Just hard work and a willingness to learn!"
Challenges and growth in the construction retail industry
When Joe first joined the retail side of the construction industry, he had some reservations. "I was quite shy and anxious, and the idea of a customer-facing role was daunting. But since then, I’ve grown into a completely different person, and my confidence has skyrocketed."Joe has completed Toolstation’s ‘Take the Lead’ course and is awaiting a start date for his Level 3 Management Apprenticeship, showing his commitment to continuous learning.
