What you'll do
This is a hybrid based role, you can either be based in the Midlands or South West where you will be expected to work from the office 1-2 times per month at either Bridgwater or Northampton.

Reporting into a Category Manager, you will support the delivery of the category and customer proposition, fully supported by your line manager. Centred around our customer strategy, you will help to find and work with the best suppliers and build and maintain fantastic relationships with our stores, providing them with the service that they need to win.  

 
Whilst doing a hands on role as a Apprentice Category Assistant, 1 day a week you will dedicate time to a Buying & Merchandising Apprenticeship.
 
The apprenticeship is a Level 4 - Commercial Foundation degree which lasts around 18 months. You will have the support of a dedicated mentor and your direct line manager.
 
Some of the areas you will cover within your apprenticeship are
- How to drive Category Performance
- Understand the world around Customer Market Competition
- Negotiating with suppliers
- The right product, in the right place and the right time, Supply & Stock management
- How to create and deliver a Category strategy & plan
What you'll bring

You may currently already work within a retail environment or in a business administration role and be looking for the opportunity to step into a new challenge and develop your skills.

 

We'll need you to demonstrate:

 

Negotation and influencing skills - you know how to persuade people and have a strong commercial mindset and an instinct for a deal

Great communication skills - you'll be working closely with our suppliers, stores and sales teams, so you'll need to understand how to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, someone with an instinct to read the room and get people on side

Passion, ambition and a willingness to learn- your mission will be to ensure we are supporting our branches to brilliantly service our customers and to develop your skills set to learn everything you can about Commercial Category Planning and Management

PC Literacy and Excel skills - you will need to be familiar with computer work and have a decent level of excel skill as you will be creating spreadhseets and analysing data in this role
